THE Creepy Movie To Watch At Halloween: Psycho!

Yes, I am aware of the fact that it is November. But I simply have to write this post!

Psycho is disturbing. Psycho is unnerving. And Psycho is definitely creepy! This is why it is absolutely perfect viewing for Halloween night. However, with this particular movie, I will warn you that it is advisable to have a pillow nearby if it is your first time viewing, just in case!
Mr. Hitchcock obviously cared very much about this movie, as he took many precautions to ensure that the movie was not ruined for anyone, including buying as many of the books as he could find and even putting up cardboard cut-outs of himself outside all cinemas showing the movie, informing people that if they tried to enter the theatre after the beginning they would be met by force. If Hitchcock told me that I would definitely run away from the cinema...probably screaming. He's terrifying like that.

I want one of these for my bedroom. Seriously.
I have a question, though: HOW ON EARTH DID ANTHONY PERKINS NOT WIN A BLOOMIN' OSCAR?!  Seriously! How ridiculous! Did the AMPAS even watch his performance? I actually wish they didn't, because then that would mean they would have an excuse for not nominating him!

I love this photo! I love Vespas...and Tony Perkins!
Overall, this movie is brilliance. Just brilliance. GO WATCH IT (AND YES, THIS IS AIMED AT YOU, EMM)!

Happy Halloween!

This is Niamhy, hoping you have a frighteningly spooktacular Halloween!
(Jeepers, that sounds so cheesy! Not done intentionally!)

MWAHAHAHAHA!

Quote Of The Day!

One from The King Of Awesome Creepiness With His Wonderfully Ghoulish Voice And Laugh, Mr. Vincent Price!

'It's as much fun to scare as to be scared.'

This is pretty awesome

Creepy Movies To Watch At Halloween: And Then There Were None!

I love, love, LOVE this movie! And I'm not sure if it can possibly be deemed creepy, but it has an amazing Halloween-like atmosphere!

This is an adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel-need I say more? It was written by freakin' Agatha Christie-it was bound to be awesome! And it lives up to it's expectations. The cast is just fantastic-they compliment each other really well and they are all wonderful character actors (I mean, Judith Anderson? She is the queen of character actors!).

That little ornament FREAKS THE HELL OUTTA ME!
And the story-oh, what can I say about the story? Simply not enough! It's just too perfect for words! I'm amazed Mr. Hitchcock himself didn't jump at the chance to direct it! I remember watching it, and afterwards when I was trying to explain to people the amazingness of it I had no words. That's how amazing it was-I never have no words (as all my poor dears know-they all can't wait to get rid of me to give their ears a rest)!

I'm so curious as to what she was knitting...

Honestly, if this movie was a male I would probably marry it-that just proves how perfect I think it is! Do I even need to say I recommend you watch it?!

Quote Of The Day!

This one from Vera Miles is coincidental considering the final line in Psycho, don't you think?

'I couldn't kill a fly.'

Creepy Movies To Watch At Halloween: Vertigo

This is one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen, if not THE creepiest. I saw it for the first time when I was about eight, and it has scarred me for LIFE!

Everything about it creeps me out-seriously, what is not creepy about this movie? Bell towers are creepy. Hanging from a rooftop is creepy. Jimmy Stewart is creepy. Kim Novak is creepy. And this...THIS IS THE CREEPIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN AND PROBABLY EVER WILL SEE IN MY LIFE:

Carlotta Valdes is the single spookiest thing ever (you can imagine my initial reaction when Carlotta followed me on Twitter! I love you Carlotta, really!). And that final scene! Woah! Little Eight-Year-Old Niamhy was so terrified she started crying. Yes, that nun made me cry. Like a baby. I still feel like crying sometimes when I watch-even when I think about that scene (but I hold it in for fear of what we would call 'slegging' or 'heckling').

Did I mention that this is one of my brother's favourite movies? He thinks it is sheer brilliance! And I think it is quite brilliant too, even if it is OUT OF THE ORDINARY, EXTREMELY, UNBELIEVABLY, FATALLY CREEPY!

Quote Of The Day!

One from Vlad himself, Mr. Bela Lugosi!

'I have never met a vampire personally, but I don't know what might happen tomorrow.'

Creepy Series To Watch At Halloween: The Twilight Zone!

I know I said I was going to blog about movies, but how can I exclude The Twilight Zone? It is the epitome of creepiness!

The Twilight Zone is the best TV show ever. No doubt about it. Don't even question this statement, because it is the truth.
It is just so awesome! The stories are excellent-some of the writing is just wonderful (check out season 1, episode 2-The One For The Angels-it's so gorgeous yet creepy; it made me cry!). Also, the acting is pretty great (even if somewhat animated!), and Rod Serling's narration is easily recognisable (and slightly unnerving...darn it, I used the ellipses again!).

Kind of reminds you of the dream sequence in Spellbound, doesn't it?

Really, you can watch The Twilight Zone all year round, but watching it at Halloween multiplies the shivers by about ten million-I would love to watch a Twilight Zone marathon on Halloween night!

(PS-strangely, a guy on a politics show my dad is watching just mentioned The Twilight Zone. Weird...)

Quote Of The Day!

One from the gorgeous Mia Farrow!

'Life is about losing and about doing it as gracefully as possible...and enjoying everything in between.'

I'll probably never watch this movie-I'm a scaredy-ba!

Creepy Movies To Watch At Halloween: Gaslight (1944)!

All this week I will be reviewing (well, trying to review!) some great (not exactly horror) movies to watch at Halloween. The first movie in this series is Gaslight (1944).

Whoever painted these faces really needs to get their eyes checked!

Gaslight (or Murder In Thornton Square) tells the story of Paula Alquist, a young woman who moves into the house her aunt was murdered in ten years beforehand with her husband to begin a new life. However, she begins to hear strange noises in the night and the gaslights keep darkening. She soon begins to go insane...(over use of elipses, I know!)
The acting in this movie is simply superb, with Ingrid Bergman's wonderful interpretation of a woman plummeting into the pits of insanity earning her an Oscar, and Angela Lansbury's debut turn as a sly, immature housemaid getting her her first nomination. But who really stands out for me is the ever-consistent Mr. Joseph Cotten.

I mean, seriously, is this man ever not brilliant? He's brilliant in Shadow of a Doubt, he's brilliant in Citizen Kane (so brilliant that I didn't even realise Uncle Charlie and Jedediah Leland were the same person!), and he's brilliant in this. The man is just consistently brilliant! (I've used the word brilliant so much that it doesn't mean anything anymore...but that's the best word to describe Joseph Cotten!)
The set is cleverly cluttered with bric-a-brac and bits-and-bobs to symbolise Paula's claustrophobia and need to escape. It's extremely effective-I started to feel claustrophobic just watching it! I actually started to feel myself go insane!

This movie is perfect for anyone who is terrified at the thought of sitting through a horror movie...or for anyone who is trying to get a friend or family member to sit through a creepy movie this Halloween. Simply tell them it's a film noir!
